This was mentioned in the 4.07.1 blog post. Simply change the "parent" unit to a Skirmisher as well, then you can re-combine. See the post for more details, down towards the bottom.

With the expansion of the Hotkeys that functionality was lost (unintentionally). The solution will be to include the rest of the functionality from the Napoleonic engine where the higher echelon leaders are highlighted with a different color when an Org is selected. We'll look into that for 4.05.
