Re: Developer Notes - When a scenario makes no mention of HTH or AI?

On that front, I would say that every game is designed to be played against the AI. The AI can be better or worse at times (though it has gotten much better thanks to the programmers), but the majority of the user base play against the AI. An AI will never replace a human for cunning play, but the g...

Re: Developer Notes - When a scenario makes no mention of HTH or AI?

It's going to depend on the game and when it was done. More recent games have been more explicit in writing this out, but it can be a few things. 1) Some scenarios are only really interesting from one side, so we might tag it as "vs Austrian AI" (or the like). 2) A variation of this can be...

Re: State Regiments in the ACW

I think "it varied" is going to be the big issue. Because it was still up to the states to forward reinforcements, it will be pretty variable. Commonly, state officials would rather raise new regiments (with the chances for patronage and favor swapping that allowed), but as you note, that ...

Re: Favorite WDS game???

Not counting any of mine, I'd likely say I've gotten more enjoyment out of 1776 over the years than anything (though, I haven't played in a very lone time at this point).

Other favorites include 1812, Campaign Ozark, Wagram and Jutland.

Re: Is Renaissance Worth It?

Do infantry units in this game deploy skirmishers like they do in Napoleonic Battles? Thanks. That depends on the unit and how the developer chooses to code it. As a rule, there are going to be far fewer skirmishers in any M&P game than in the NAP games, though there are times where they are us...

Re: British BBs in Jutland game.

When it comes to Critical Hits, all ships on one side have the same probability. That's a bit embarrassing for the engine, isn't it? Slightly more politely, it's a definite oversimplification. It's one of the things that we are looking at for the next game in the series (and all games will be updat...

Re: Midway vs Carriers At War

I didn't play Carriers at War, but I did play Carrier Strike. To each their own, but the strength of Midway in my very biased opinion is that it really puts a focus on the time element of air ops. Everything takes time, and you have to manage it carefully to be successful.

Re: Cavalry charge fatigue from charge movement

How often do you think a given body of cavalry should be able to charge in a single battle? I don't mean that as a smug question. My Napoleonic reading is honestly rusty, but I know that the Prussian cavalry at Rossbach in 7YW made two major charges, and that was considered a most impressive feat at...

Re: Squadron movement in Jutland

If you detach the flagship itself, then the next ship in the formation becomes the new flag. Otherwise, the large scenarios in Jutland pretty much have to be played with many pauses. It's just too big to run on full.
