SBWW2 West Front-(WD)421206-Tunisia

Post by Warhorse »

Here is a scenario by F.Lee Harmon Jr., Breakthrough! converted to use with my SBWW2 West Front mod, based on Eagles Strike. Uses Desert Battles sub mod using JSGME before starting the scenario to get the correct terrain.

Description-Scenario Size:Medium\2 Player Game?: Yes\\Designer's Notes: The
German player has to be crafty to manage a win in this scenario
and wisely choose his route of attack. Practicing the ideology
of Guderian is probably the best option. \\06 DECEMBER 1942,
JEBEL EL GUESA, TUNISIA\\By late December 1942, extremely determined
counterattacks by German forces in North Africa had not deterred
Allied High Command from continuing to prepare a new assault
on Tunis.\\To complicate matters further, the Afrika Korps now
held the advantage and was trying to breakthrough in the vicinity
of Medjez-El-Bab. Rommel's troops planned to advance along the
south bank of the Medjerda River, a sector defended by Combat
Command B of the US 1st Armored Division.\\Rushing to assume
a blocking position, Charlie Company, 6th Armored Infantry Battalion
held the south sector of the AOR and soon found themselves in
threat of being cut off by enemy armor. As tanks and SP Arty
from C/27th Armored Artillery Bn. entered the fray, they were
able to prohibit the German tanks from accomplishing their feat
in entirety.\\Although the Yankees did not give up without a
fight the relatively inexperienced American troops suffered from
poor coordination in their attack and would pay dearly losing
the majority of their armored vehicles and suffering heavy infantry
losses (they did manage to knock-out 8 German AFV's). \\Despite
the fact that the main American force managed to make it back
to a defensive position 6km in the rear, isolated pockets of
infantry were cut off and forced to surrender giving the Germans
the day and the field.

Changes are switching to correct vehicles/guns for the year involved, since this was made in Eagles Strike which didn't include some kit.

SBWW2 Eastern Front Vol. II-430807-Maximova

Post by Warhorse »

Here is another conversion, this for SBWW2 East Front Volume II, based on Red Victory. Steel Inferno at Maximova by Ozgur Budak, here is the description-
07 AUGUST 1943, MAXIMOVA, 15 KM SOUTH OF BOGODUKHOV:\\Operation
Rumyantsev was the third Russian attempt to capture Kharkov.
It was a nasty surprise for the German command which believed
that after the Battle of Kursk the Soviet mobile reserves were
too damaged to launch an offensive in the short term. However,
on 23 July, elements of the Voronezh and Steppe Fronts hit the
Belgorod line, pushing aside the 332nd Infantry Division and
167th Infantry Division. Soviet command sent two powerful armored
spearheads into the breach; Katukov's 1st Tank Army and Rotmistrov's
5th Gds Tank Army. The counterattack by the tired 19th Panzer
Division could not prevent the envelopment of Tomarovka.\\On
5 August the 3rd Mechanized Corps, the leading mobile element
of the 1st Tank Army, was holding static lines south of the Tomarovka
Pocket. On 6 August the mobile unit was relieved by the infantry
from the 32nd Guards Rifle Corps and continued its advance towards
Bogodukhov and Merefa to outflank Kharkov from the West. On 7
August after bypassing the German defenses at Bogodukhov, the
Russian spearhead continued its advance south towards Maximova,
a key rail line sector between Kharkov and Bogodukhov.\\By 17:00,
the leading unit of the 3rd Mechanized Corps, the 1st Guards
Tank Brigade, was near Maximova where they ran into the elements
of the 2nd SS Panzergrenadier Division "Das Reich" which was
moving from Olshany towards Bogodukhov to plug the gap and establish
contact with Army Detachment Kempf. Russian tanks reacted quickly
and engaged the German column South of Maximova. With the arrival
of reinforcements, the unexpected encounter developed into a
chaotic tank battle which continued for two days.\\Waffen SS
vs Russian Guards, Waffen SS move first.\\All special ammunition
available to both sides.

Re: SBWW2 MOD Scenario's.

In the latest version of SBWW2 West Front I added a few more conversions of existing Eagles Strike scenario's. Conversions you might ask, what is that? What I do with these is correct glaring errors, at least to me, being a stickler for authenticity, redo maps or dress them up in proper attire such as Mediterranean, Crete, etc. appearance. And then I give them a dedicated pdt file, also adjusted for theatre, Mediterranean etc., I have templates ready made. Also then the combat rolls are a tad more lethal, I think the vanilla games are too tame, don't feel right to me. The latest one, "Everything We've Got", set in Anzio 44/02, has the map adjusted for Mediterranean terrain, but most of all I replaced the 76mm Sherman's with the correct 75mm available at the time. The M4A1 76mm didn't become available until 7/44!! Also, the M21 MMC mortar carrier wasn't available until later, so I replaced it with the M4 MMC, which the stock game doesn't even have. On the German side, pzfaust 60 are replaced with the pzfaust 30, the 60 wasn't available in numbers until 9/44. Also for the Germans, the Sdkfz 250/8, with the Kwk37 75mm short barrel replaced the wrong ig 18 gun, and allows it to fire AP, which the stock game has wrong as well. So, even if you have played these stock scenarios before in the vanilla game, I urge you to try again with the SBWW2 West Front Mod, it will add a whole new dimension to the scenario's! Oh, and I will usually script them for both sides, which a lot of the time they never were made for solo play! Enjoy!!

Hey thanks Mike!

To find a 76mm gun Sherman available in 1943 or early 1944 is just plain stupid. The Army Ordnance Dept. was in a state of flux in these years '43 and 44 because they didn't know how to engage a Tiger I with reasonable chance of victory. When the Panther came on line in the west, everything they learned or knew went right out the window. They were playing severe catch up from that point. It wasn't until the dawn of the 90mm gun on a tank chasse could the Americans stand toe to toe with the German Big Cats. The British with their 17pdr gun got their earlier thank heaven for the Western Powers.

The snub-nosed 75mm Gun for the Germans was used on almost every vehicle the Germans had of the period. Sure there were exceptions but not many.

Certain minimal ordnance needs to be researched and then included in the game not just thrown together to market a product.

Wargaming is a lot of things! But in my eyes accuracy to ordnances and weapon availability is a must!!

SBWW2 Eastern Front Vol. II-430218-Jeremejewka

Post by Warhorse »

Hi all,

Here is a converted scenario for SBWW2 by Ozgur Budak, Peiper at Jeremejewka.

Uses Winter camo submod with JSGME before starting the scenario.

18 FEBRUARY 1943, JEREMEJEWKA, 30KM EAST OF KRASNOGRAD:\\After
the failure of the German attempt to re-join the encircled Sixth
Army in Stalingrad, a Russian offensive on 2,000 Km long line
followed in January 1943. The entire front between the Orel River
and the Black Sea was active, while the critical sector was the
Stalingrad corridor and the Caucasian German Armies. Strong Russian
formations attempted to cut the key city of Kharkov and disrupt
the German communications between Army Group Center and South.
Although being in crisis against irresistible enemy waves, von
Manstein started to prepare a counteroffensive based on the principles
of mobile warfare.\\On February 16th, Vatutin took Kharkov and
sent two armies towards Krasnograd with a left hook; unaware
of the powerful forces ready to envelope him. On February 17th,
von Manstein was able to say that his preparations had finished
and he was ready to begin the operation. The SS Panzerkorps was
sent to Krasnograd to assault Vatutin's flank. Sepp Dietrich
divided the 1st SS Panzergrenadier Division "Leibstandarte Adolph
Hitler" into three powerful Kampfgruppe: KG Wunsche under Major
Max Wunsche; KG Meyer under Major Kurt Meyer and KG Peiper under
Major Jochen Peiper. LSSAH's initial task was to capture certain
villages to be used as observation & jumping points for the upcoming
counterattack. The village of Jeremejewka located 30 km East
of Krasnograd, was one of the key objectives overlooking the
flanks of the advancing Soviet 3rd Tank Army. On 18 February
1943; flanked by Meyer's Aufklarung Abteilung; Kampfgruppe Peiper
left Ziglerowka for Jeremejewka . Peiper encountered an enemy
recon element in the village. Always a daring and aggressive
commander; he launched an immediate attack to capture the positions
before Russians find time to react. \\Waffen SS vs Russians,
SS move first.\\Uses Winter Camo with JSGME.\All special ammo
able to be used.

SBWW2 East Front II-450305-Seregelyes

Post by Warhorse »

Here is a scenario, converted from an ASL scenario for Red Victory , in turn converted to SBWW2, by John Pirman, Seregelyes Slug-Out.

SEREGELYES, Hungary, 5 March, 1945: The 3rd Panzer Corps is conducting
offensive operations southwest of Budapest to slow the advance
of the 6th Guards Tank Army. As part of this mission, the 1st
Panzer Division was ordered to secure the town of Seregelyes
and the bridges over the many canals in the area. The attack
began late morning, but soft conditions delayed the German tanks,
causing the panzergrenadiers to advance on Seregelyes with only
the support of their halftracks and a few armored cars. Russian
heavy tanks closed in behind the panzergrenadiers and occupied
a ridge overlooking Seregelyes. As Panther tanks approached the
town, they encountered intense Russian artillery fire and unusually
accurate fire from hull down Stalin tanks. Fire from the Panthers
was ineffective against the Stalins' superior armor so King Tigers
from the 509th Schwere Panzer Battalion were sent in. Soft conditions
kept the Tiger mostly confined to the roads. As Hauptmann Dr.
Konig's Tigers approached the ridge they too were met with heavy
fire. This time the return fire was 88mm guns and soon four Stalin
tanks were afire on the ridge. The Panthers ran into more Stalins
and again requested help. Two of Dr. Konig's Tigers responded
and destroyed two more Stalins. By mid-afternoon, Oberst Bradels'
kampfgruppe secured Seregelyes, but the Russians succeeded in
destroying one of the vital bridges east of the town. The minor
victory was short lived and soon the 1st Panzer Division would
fall back towards the west. [Special thanks to Evan E. Sherry
for his development of this scenario in Advanced Squad Leader].\\Uses
Spring Terrain with JSGME before starting game.\\Germans vs Russian
Guards, Germans move first.\All special ammo available.
