Artillery

I just bought France 14 and I am struggeling with the artillery. I have some guns in the artillery dialog box and I can plot them but I have so much more guns with the troops that dont show up in the artillery box. These are smaller calibers but I cant (range) fire them prior to an assault or something like that. So what is the use for the artillery. How do I use them?

They fire directly, in the same way as machine guns and infantry, but with a longer range. Think of them as field guns rather than artillery.
