Cancel Charge

Post by Tony »

I set my cavalry to Change Charging (Cntrl+B) and it didn't even cost me any movement points. Coolio. However, after realizing that i no longer wanted to Charge with that Unit, i realized that i could not get out of the charging state. What gives? When i go to melee and get hit with opportunity fire and lose men, i can still cancel the melee. I was punished for choosing to melee by my artillery getting fatigued or losing a gun or having men and lost. But at least i can cancel.

However, once you set your cavalry to charge, that's it? Finito? I can't get out of that state? If there is, let me know. If not, well, i guess that's the punishment for guessing wrong. You're stuck like chuck.

You are in that state for that turn, but if you choose not to conduct the charge simply don't... they will end the turn Disordered, but since they didn't acquire any fatigue or losses that would cause a morale check they will most likely return to good order at the beginning of your next turn.

Rich,

Wanted to thank you not only for your answer, but thank you in general. I understand why you're so active on the boards, but you don't have to. Yet you are.

I told one of your guys on the dev team, Nick Ferry, just how cool and welcoming you are, and he dittoed my sentiment. But we gotta let you know how much you're appreciated too, right? Kinda important.

Those morale checks, man. The other day, i had two Infantry trying to go from Column to Line, yet only one passed which then caused both to get Disordered. As i laughed at my woe, i moved the group that had failed the check one hex away and they then failed that check, causing them to get Routed
In two clicks i went from all is well to routed

You win some, you roll snake eyes some :-)

Glad to be of help where I can Tony!

As you have illustrated, I always try and do formation changes both well away from the enemy, and having each unit alone in a hex. They can stack once all of that is completed.

And if you are keeping your units Fatigue low and also keeping them In Command, then a return to good order sill not take too long, generally. If you press them too hard you will struggle to get them to "obey orders". :-)
