Smoke Rounds for cover

I pretty well got it down in single player to obscure/hide my unit when they dash forward to an Objective or get near a occupied bunker/trench.
But shouldn't dropping a smoke round ON a bunker or trench throw off the aim/delay firing/obscure targeting firing from that positions??
Smoke rounds have been live savers for my Allied troops in BoN

smoke on a hex doesn t mask LOS
you must smoke around the hex

Looks like in PB smoke has no effect on units in the same hex?
In SB and the CS games, smoke blocks LOS as usual but it also halves fire values both from and into the smoked hex.

Thank you both for your replies. If I want to edit a file so smoke would halves values fire values where would I look or is it hardcoded?

That is hardcoded. It could be that smoke does affect FV but it's not mentioned on the manual. Would need to run a few tests to confirm either way.
