What is the step-by-step process of changing the graphical unit icon on a unit to another graphical unit icon?

I assume you mean the unit image? You need to use the same name for the image you are replacing.

If you have a new image, which should be the exact same dimensions, open the file you want to replace with paint, then paste the new image over the old one, then click save, done.
