I note that Niccolo Pitigliano is listed as the commander of the Venetian forces at Agnadello. This is incorrect. The Venetian commander on the field was Pitigliano's cousin, Bartolomeo d'Alviano. Both were of the Orsini clan and both were mercenary leaders employed by Venice. Pitigliano was the Captain-General of the Venetian forces and was a few miles away but never reinforced d'Alviano, despite his request. Pitigliano ordered d'Alviano to avoid a battle but d'Alviano was caught by French cavalry as he tried to move south to avoid battle. Outnumbered, d'Alviano gave a stalwart defense, but was eventually worn down and defeated. The results of the battle caused the Venetian forces under Pitigliano to flee.
