Does the AI calculate the ultimate distance at which a torpedo from one of its ships will impact its target before it launches the weapon?
I'm not making reference to the maximum range of the weapon, so much as the AI taking into account the reality that the target can/will move out of that same range if it simply maintains course and speed.
This is a situation that's most likely to occur when an AI-controlled ship is chasing a target vessel from the latter's stern quarters.
Sorry, if my query is worded awkwardly.
It would make perfect sense if you could see my hand gestures as I try to explain!

My blunt answer is... I'm not entirely sure

Neither am I
Re: AI Ship Torpedo Targeting
The AI will certainly attempt to ascertain an optimal sub firing solution. If the calculation fails the initial time projection check based on the target's course and speed and the torpedo speed, it shouldn't fire. It should also attempt to alter trajectory if the target is turning. As ever, with such calculations, there is some randomness applied to prevent it being completely deterministic.
