Formation change costs

Post by chris_merchant »

Formation change costs are documented in the PDT file (F2 in game).
quoth the manual.

For the life of me I can't find any formation change costs in the PDT file (Waterloo 4.05)

Any clues please?

edit: on testing it seems inf/art formation change cost is 50% of movement points.

cheers!

I've always thought it'd be good if the cost of changing formation was tied to the quality of the troops doing so.

E.G.: A guard unit should be better drilled than a newly raised conscript or Landwehr one and would perform the change at a quicker pace and be less likely to fall into disorder whilst doing so.

Here's the correct answer on this. Documentation will be updated with the next patch cycle:
Formation change costs are 50% of the original movement point costs available to a unit. For example, an infantry battalion starts with 10 movement points. It moves forward 1 hex in Line formation for a cost of 3 and can still change formation at a cost of 5, with 2 points remaining.

Quick question. Was it always 50%?

It must have been in the PDT originally so probably was a variable parameter?

don't know but something I miss from the campaign series is the button that reserves the movement points to change formation, so you can click that and then be reasonably safe with your movement and formation change will come to fruition.

This has not changed... we've only added to the PDT file, not taken away. :)

If you need help with the PDT files just check the PDT_Guide.pdf, that should help.

The PDT details have been incorporated into the Scenario Editor Manual with the latest update - along with OOB details and other file definitions.

Ah, thanks for that.
Could it be considered to remove such obsolete guides like the PDT_Guide, OB_Guide, etc., one can get lost with all these PDFs especially if they are outdated.

Yes, they can be safely deleted - and we have removed them from the new builds... not much we can do with files already out there however.
